Send Messages Automatically via our Shopify SMS Integration

Use our Shopify SMS integration to provide an extra layer of service to your customers. Choose between the popular automation platforms Zapier and Make to set up the integration with.

Zapier and Make both make it possible to set up the integration without a hassle and give you great flexibility to choose the features that make sense for your webshop. In addition, the platforms offer you the ability to set up automation, where a number of actions are carried out automatically without you having to lift a finger.

Don’t miss out on potential sales

Get customers back from an abandoned cart with SMS automation

With the Shopify SMS integration you can:

  • Send SMS messages to potential customers who have abandoned their cart with a catchy text and possibly a discount code that ensures that the sale goes through.
  • Send SMS messages with an update on the customer’s order, e.g. when the order is processed and when it has been sent.
  • Send SMS messages with delivery information. This feature especially makes sense when delivering goods that require the customer to be at home.

Studies show that the “recovery rate” is roughly 25% with an abandoned cart SMS. This means that 1 in 4 who receive the SMS message will go back to your webshop and complete the purchase. In addition, various studies show that approximately 2 out of 3 prefer to receive updates about their order via SMS messages rather than other communication channels.

Internal use

Keep yourself and employees up to date

You can also apply the SMS integration internally and send information to yourself or employees via SMS when:

  • A new order has been completed
  • A customer has cancelled his order
  • A customer has created an account
  • A new item has been added to your Shopify account

The above examples of external and internal use are only the tip of the iceberg in terms of what you are able to set up.

3,000+ apps to choose from

More about using Zapier and Make

Via the automation platforms Zapier and Make, you can, without any kind of experience with coding, set up exactly what you want with our Shopify SMS gateway integration.

You simply select the services you want to integrate with our GatewayAPI SMS app at Zapier or Make. The two platforms offer a plethora of options – actually over 3,000 services to choose from. These include Google sheets, Gmail, Google Calendar, Pipedrive, Slack, MailChimp, Trello, Zendesk and various social media. To name a few.

Once you have selected the services you want to use, you can use the available triggers and actions and combine them in exactly the ways that make sense to you. Triggers and actions can be described as a series of predefined functions, where all the difficult coding have been done in advance.

As the term suggests, a trigger is activated when something specific happens, e.g. when a customer completes an order. You can then choose which action it shall trigger, e.g. that an SMS is sent to the customer or the owner of the webshop.

Shopify’s app at Make offers over 60 actions, which provides plenty of options to choose from. The list of triggers and actions can also inspire you to which tasks can be automated using the platform.

How to get started

Step by step guide to setting up the integration

If you haven’t already done so, first create a GatewayAPI account. Afterwards, create a Zapier account or a Make account.

We recommend that you use Zapier if you have a single trigger and a simple flow, where Make is better suited for more complex automation flows, where different actions and flows are executed based on previous actions and results.

Once the accounts are created, you can set up your first integrations by following the steps in the guides below.

Set up via Zapier

  • Go to your Zapier account.
  • Go to “My Apps” in the left menu.
  • Search for “GatewayAPI”.
  • Click on “Connect”.
  • Insert your unique GatewayAPI key, which you can find on your GatewayAPI dashboard under ‘API keys’ and ‘Token’, to start using our app in Zapier.
  • Follow this guide to connect Shopify to Zapier.
  • Start exploring your options and set up the integrations that can benefit your business.
  • You can also use our pre-configured Zapier Shopify SMS template. The template is configured to send an automatic SMS reminder via GatewayAPI to users who have abandoned their cart.

Set up via Make

  • Go to your Make account.
  • Go to “scenarios” in the menu on the left.
  • Click on “create a new scenario”.
  • Search for GatewayAPI.
  • When you set up the app, you will be asked for your unique GatewayAPI key, which you can find on your GatewayAPI dashboard under ‘API keys’ and ‘Token’.
  • Follow this guide to connect Shopify to Make.
  • Now you are ready to set up exactly the features and automatic actions you want.

You can also use our pre-configured Make Shopify SMS template. The template is configured to send an automatic SMS reminder via GatewayAPI to users who have abandoned their cart.
