What are RCS agents?

RCS agents are verified digital identities that brands can use to communicate with recipients via RCS. Where SMS uses a Sender ID (a name or a number), RCS provides brands with a complete profile that recipients can interact with and trust.

The agents function is split up in two:

Brand Communication: The agent acts as the official sender. Messages are delivered with a name, logo, description and contact information. When a brand sends RCS messages, users can click on the brand name at the top of the message to view additional information about the sender.

Security: The agent acts as a security mechanism that protects brands from misuse. Messages are sent by verified brands, so users have no doubt about the authenticity of the sender.

Registration requirements

To maintain RCS’ high security standards and ensure the brand’s visual presentation, a number of requirements must be met for approval:

  • Verified Business: The brand must have an official website, and the information in the agent profile must match the company’s public identity. This includes correct contact information and a link to the privacy policy.
  • Brands Assets: To ensure a consistent and professional user experience across all devices, specific technical requirements are imposed on brands and their visual materials, including fixed standards for logo format and brand colors.
  • Geographic regulations: Although RCS is a global standard, regulatory requirements vary from country to country. Certain jurisdictions and operators require additional documentation to approve an agent.

The creation and verification of an agent is an approval process that ensures RCS’ credibility. Setup is handled via your GatewayAPI dashboard, where our experts will assist you throughout the entire process of setup, verification and launch.
